I’m Back!

Hi folks, I know it’s been quite a while since my last entry, and for this I am sorry.  I did have this really great excuse prepared for you all about my absence; one involving a massive writers’ strike, economic downturn, government cover up,  and a talking yeti named Bill.  But at the risk of involuntary committal, I think it best I should pass on this.

That being said, I have a few really big announcements from San Tan Hills Photography!

1 – Spring Sale: Within the next few days all followers of the San Tan Hills photo blog and/or Facebook page will be eligible for 15% off any order at San Tan Hills Photography.  The sale will last for 3 days only!  Keep a look out for the special coupon code!

2 – New Interview Series coming soon: Periodically, in an effort to promote and inspire others in the arts, I’ll be featuring interviews with professionals in various creative fields.  These will include photographers, graphic designers, musicians, and many more.

3 – PUBLISHED!!:  Keep a look out in bookstores over the next month or so for a few of my photos in print!  One of my photos will be featured in a book entitled “Arizona: Scenic Wonders of the Grand Canyon State,” by Rio Nuevo Publishers; and a few others will be featured in the May issue of AZ Business Magazine, as part of a story on the “Arizona Forward” Initiative.

RO120 Art Show Photos

This past Friday evening, the Arizona Christian Worldview Institute (ACWI) hosted the RO120 Art Show and Sale, held in conjunction with the Phoenix 1st Friday Art Walk; a monthly event wherein galleries along Roosevelt Street open their doors to the public for free viewing.

My good friend Brian Ring and I both had some of our original works on display for sale.  Overall, we had a great turnout, and even sold some of our prints!

The day after the show, I had the opportunity to attend an excellent workshop on Biblical Aesthetics, hosted by Rev. Joel Pelsue, of Arts & Entertainment Ministries.

Here are some of the photos from Friday evening:

Little Giants

Yesterday I had the opportunity to accompany Jason Wise, professional sports photographer and long-time friend, out to a makeshift park/retention basin in the middle of nowhere; to photograph a junior flag football game.  Now, anyone who knows me may know that I’m not much of a football enthusiast, but there was something truly fun about this event for me; whether it was the inspiration that came from seeing a master like Jason at work, or that burst of creative energy that surges through me whenever I have a camera in my hands… or maybe it could’ve been the entertainment factor of watching small kids running the wrong way with the ball, or the joy in the face of a young player skipping toward his mom with a smile on his face, after scoring a touchdown… Whatever it may be, it was a morning to remember.

Below are some the photos from my very first experiment in sports photography!

The San Tan Hills Have Eyes

Last night I took a small group of friends out on a nighttime walk through a section of San Tan Mountain Regional Park in Queen Creek, AZ.  We were partaking in an activity that I’ve affectionately termed “hike-o-tography” (hiking + photography).  I had been wanting to start taking small groups out on such excursions for quite some time now, and with Halloween right around the corner, thought it might be a fun way to kick it all off; with a spooky night hike.  So I got a small group together, we donned our flashlights, and headed into the desert darkness…
